This class of roses includes those roses which exist before
the identification and definition of modern roses in France that is probably in
1867.
Some of the important members of this rose group are as
under:
ROSA ALBA
The rose flowers that appear early in the spring or show
their beauty in the summer are the flowers of Rosa alba. The flowers are
aromatic with the color of petals are white or light pink. They grow very fast
and have nature of climbing on the walls and other supports. The foliage color
is grayish green. The rose hip is small and round in shape.
DAMASK ROSE
This flower was named as damask because they are native to
Damask city and then they are moved to Europe. They have giant sized flower
with pink or white petals. Petals look very beautiful and it is also used to
make perfumes in perfume industry.
PORTLAND ROSE
The plants have short and smart stature. Most of the
flowering takes place in the summer. The flower stalk is relatively small and
produces bundles of flowers. The flowering may even continue in the autumn
season. Petal color is bright reddish and have aroma.
HYBRID MUSK ROSE
The flowers are small and simply single or double. The stamen of the flower is very appealing and the smell is musk like smell. The branches are long and they bear cluster of flowers. It’s the quality of musk rose that its cluster blooming will continue throughout the spring and also gives flower in autumn if properly dead headed. The hips of musk rose are red in color and very small in size.
NOISETTE
Noisette is a climber rose and it produces yellow or apricot
color blooms throughout the season. The garden becomes full of scent with its
aromatic flowers. It have round stem with shiny leaves. These roses are more
suitable for walls, hedges and other structures. They need special care in
sense of training and pruning to enhance their beauty and landscape value.
Centifolia or
Provence
This rose have hundred of petals which are arranged in a way
to give a globular shape to flower and because of this characteristic this
flower is also known as cabbage rose. This rose comes as a result of cross
between damask rose and albas. The flowers are large in size and have a
beautiful scent.
China rose
It is one of the most frost sensitive shrubs. It gives fewer
flowers and the flowers of China rose are less fragrant. They flower
continuously in the late summer and even in the autumn depends upon the proper
management of the plant. China rose is famous because its flower colors get
darker with the time which is unique characteristic as the color of other
flowers fade with the passage of time. The rose hips are greenish and small in
size.
Old garden roses have a variety in their colors and aroma.
They can beautify the gardens and homes or offices lawns. Everyone can grow his
favorite china rose in his/her home.
