Awards, promotions and prizes give motivation and honor to the person. The
person will feel more energetic and become more committed to his work after
such appreciation. The World Food prize is a type of appreciation that is given
to the individuals who have devoted themselves to improve the quality, quantity
and availability of food. Internationally recognized award is distributed annually
since 1987. Eligible fields for this award are food and Agriculture, scienceand technology, manufacturing, marketing, nutrition, economics, poverty alleviation,
political leadership, and the social sciences. The former U.S. Ambassador toCambodia, U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia is running The World Food Prize
Foundation now days.

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed of Bangladesh has the honor of the 2015
World Food Prize winner. He is the founder and chairperson of BRAC (Bangladesh
Rural Advancement Committee). BRAC is the largest non- governmental
organization in the world. It is
dedicated to reduce the poverty by helping the poor since 1972. It manages the poverty
in different areas like Health, Nutrition, Disaster Management, Education and
Agriculture and Food security etc. All these efforts have improved the way of
living of nearly 150 million people worldwide.
Sir Fazle Hasan Abed is a founder of new approach to tackle hunger and poverty. He
melted new scientific innovation, development models and local participation to
fight against poverty.

The well-known plant scientist Dr. Sanjaya Rajaram, born in India and a
citizen of Mexico, was honored with the 2014 World Food Prize winner. The award
was given because of his research in wheat which has improved the world wheat
production up to 200 million tons. His unique breeding technologies are useful
in producing more nutritious food thus helping the world to fight against Food
Security issues. Dr. Rajaram under CIMMYT's wheat breeding program developed 480
different wheat varieties each with astonishing characteristics. Moreover these
varieties has been distributed and accepted in 51 countries of the World.

Van Montagu and Schell’s clarification of the structure and function of
Ti plasmid led to their development of the first technology to stably transfer
foreign genes into plants. This technology help in the improvement of many
plants by genetic modification and also led to the development of more varieties
with strong and powerful genetic makeup.

Marc Van Montagu and Jeff Schell, Chilton and two colleagues at UW Milton
Gordon and Eugene Nester made the breakthrough discovery that a small piece of
DNA from the Ti plasmid is sufficient to cause the crown gall tumors of plants.

Dr. Fraley and his team isolated a bacterial marker gene and engineered
it to express in plant cells. By inserting that specific gene into Agrobacterium, they brought immunity trait into petunia and
tobacco cells. Fraley and his team produced the first transgenic plants using the Agrobacterium transformation process.

The winner of 2012 World Food Prize was Dr. Daniel Hillel. He was
awarded with this honor because of his innovation in irrigating the plants in
arid and semi-arid regions. He revolutionized the World food production by
minimizing the water lost and enhancing the water use efficiency in
agriculture. He is the founder of drip irrigation system. He has written or
edited over 20 books on soil and water science and has more than 300
scientific publications. Dr. Hillel has revealed the friendly relation between
food production, water management, and soil science. His achievements and role
in helping the world to produce more food will be used in next century.
Winner of World Food Prize 2011:
John Agyekum Kufuor & Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva were
the president of Ghana and Brazil was selected for the winner of 2011 World
Food Prize. It is because of implementation of policies in their country that helps
against poverty and hunger. The economic reforms of President Kufuor strengthen
the agriculture sector of Ghana. He launched The Ghana School Feeding Program
that includes free meal for child of 4-14 years age. By the end of 2010,
approximately 1.04 million primary school children were participating and
benefitting from this program.
Similarly President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva made policy to
ensure three meals a day for all citizens, to decrease poverty and to enhance
educational opportunities for children. The Bolsa Familia Program to provide
cash aid to poor families, Food Purchase Program and The national School
Feeding Program were some of the initiatives of President Luiz Inácio
Lula da Silva.
